Thank you for visiting The Housing Tract!

This site is, as you may have guessed, dedicated to honoring the humble (and occasionally not-so-humble) American tract home.  Both loved and derided by many, it is an undeniable fact that the tract house has reshaped the American landscape, and enabled generations of citizens to achieve the dream of owning their own home.

Though this site is still in its infancy, I hope to begin a series of articles that will hopefully analyze how the tract home has shaped our lifestyles, how our lifestyles and technology have reshaped our homes, and how the homebuilders have attempted to develop, advertise, and sell homes that met the needs of the masses.

I am also working on assembling an online archive of new and existing housing tract floor plans and brochures.  The Floor Plan Archive is arranged by state, city, and county.  One of these days I'll get a search feature soon as I can figure out how, that is.

I'm always interested in getting additional floor plan information, so if you have anything you'd like to share (preferably complete tract home brochures), please email me through the Contact form.  Through your assistance, we can make this a somewhat comprehensive site.

Of course, you, the casual reader, are welcome and encouraged to contribute!  Your opinions and inquiries are certainly valued.  While you're here, check out our Message Board

A bit about me and this site:  I am not an architect or a real estate agent.  I don't work in the homebuilding industry.  I'm just a regular guy with a regular job who--like so many millions of us--grew up in an average, middle-class cookie-cutter neighborhood.  Living in rapidly growing Southern California, I grew to recognize and appreciate how these nearly-identical houses were an inseparable part of our lifestyles.

By the way, I am also not a web designer. (This may become readily apparent as you peruse the site.) I have done the best I can to develop a decent site based on my computer skills and financial resources.  I know there will be quirks and issues, but I'll do my best to solve them as the site grows.

The contents of this site are for informational purposes only, and any of the floor plans, brochures, or other documents indexed on this site are NOT designs for sale.  While I believe the information contained in this site is accurate, I can of course make no guarantee (if I'm wrong, let me know!).  For additional information on any community featured on this site, please contact the builder or your real estate agent directly.

As this is simply a hobby, I make no money off this website.  I only request that you 1) credit this site if you intend to use any of the floor plans or other information on your own website or print materials, and 2) send me an email through the Contact form to let me know.

Thanks again for visiting...Enjoy!
